The Art of Business Writing

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative is the State's development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy, which is responsible for one-quarter of all jobs in the state. MTC works to stimulate economic activity in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

Challenge

Spotlight was asked to help MTC develop a system to aid employees in the art of business writing. Spotlight also contributed to the rejuvenation of MTC's Annual Report. The report was developed in a clear and concise format so that the document engaged readers and clearly outlined the purpose and goals of the company.

Response

1. Presented agency-wide talk on effective business writing.
2. Incorporated images into the Annual Report, to visually show shareholders the company's progress.
3. Adjusted report language within so that it made for an easier read and was more relaxed and easily relatable to various audiences.

Result

Spotlight helped to complete a tightly written and highly acclaimed Annual Report for the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, including internal forms development. The report helps to accurately reflect what MTC does in a clear and concise way, information about its various programs, and their contribution to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
