Campaign
UMass Boston Emerging Leaders Program 10th Year Anniversary Video, honoring the Emerging Leaders Program and its founder, Dr. Sherry Penney.

Challenge
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) approached Spotlight to help them produce a video featuring senior executives of the companies, who have partnered with their program over 10 years, as well as the program alumni who work at those companies. However, the video production plan was ambitious, so the challenge was making it happen on a tight budget and deadline (less than 90 days away).

Response

  • Spotlight’s production team began intensive coordination of schedules to setup video shoot dates with some of Boston’s most notable (and busy) leaders, including: Tom May, CEO of NSTAR; George Russell, SVP of State Street Corporation; Keith Motley, Chancellor of UMass Boston; and others representing the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and some of Boston’s most respected companies and nonprofit organizations.
  • Developed a video outline, script and interviewee questions, to help carryout the 10 Year Anniversary program theme.
  • The production team attended specific ELP events outside of the project, in order to maximize shoot dates and gather B-roll footage of ELP programs.
  • Post-production leveraged all existing ELP photography, event collateral, invitations and branding to create an innovative video introduction.  In the beginning of the video, photos of ELP alumni float rapidly unison with music to create a mosaic of the Boston skyline and move into the final graphic—a replica of the 10 Year “Changing the Face of Leadership” event invitation.

Result
The video made its debut the evening of the 10 Year Anniversary “Changing the Face of Leadership Gala.” Since then it has been shared across the combined social networks of the UMass Boston Emerging Leaders Program, UMass Boston and Spotlight Communications. This includes our combined Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube audiences, where it has received rave reviews, as well as retweeted and shared.  Most importantly, after the video made its debut at the Gala, ELP was able to recruit new corporate sponsors on the spot, some of whom had only learned of the Emerging Leaders Program that night!
