Right now, social media net­work­ing is becom­ing the lead­ing and most effec­tive way to mar­ket and brand com­pa­nies and orga­ni­za­tions. About 3 in 10 hiring managers say they have found something on a social networking site that caused them to hire a candidate. Although most con­sumers pre­fer to do busi­ness with com­pa­nies that main­tain social net­works, there is still some resis­tance to using this as another viable form of com­mu­ni­ca­tion, in addi­tion to email.

Response

  • Spotlight devel­oped Social Media U, an adult con­tin­u­ing edu­ca­tion, pro­gram to teach stu­dents how to use social networks.
  • Hosted classes in person in a hands-on technology lab, as well as distance learning via webcast.
  • Iden­ti­fied tar­get audi­ence, includ­ing baby boomers, busi­ness pro­fes­sion­als, and recent col­lege grad­u­ates and job seekers.
  • Recruited a social media expert Advi­sory Board team, to help with orga­ni­za­tional start-up and cur­ricu­lum development.
  • Launched a com­pre­hen­sive cur­ricu­lum that includes “Social Media for the Tech Chal­lenged,” “Pod­cast­ing 101” and “Har­ness­ing the Power of LinkedIn.”

Result
The first two Social Media classes were sold-out! Social Media U was a great suc­cess and wel­comed across var­i­ous indus­tries. We also built a strong direct email, Face­book and Twit­ter fol­low­ing. Social Media U has allowed for the Company principal to become an in-demand speaker across all industries, on social media marketing. She is regularly invited to present to var­i­ous net­work­ing groups, col­leges and uni­ver­si­ties, law firms, finan­cial groups and beyond, about var­i­ous top­ics in social media.
