Campaign
Making the Case for Electronic Medical Records in the ER

Challenge
The vision of MedsInfo-ED was to be the first in the country to provide comprehensive patient pharmaceutical data to emergency department physicians on a real-time basis. The project made prescription history information available to any provider treating any patient in Massachusetts. The campaign goal was to improve point-of-service access to patient prescription and drug history in emergency departments.

Response
Spotlight Communications acted as Communications Project Management in preparation of the launch of the MedsInfo-ED project. The process entailed implementing an effective campaign for an internal and external audience through the following:

  • Established MedsInfo-ED communications workgroup, including, but not limited to (MASHARE, Spotlight Communications and pilot hospital communications staff);
  • Informed all team members of next steps and act as a conduit between workgroup members, Consortium and MedsInfo-ED Project Management Team;
  • Presented communications workgroup findings and suggestion
  • Developed messaging, boilerplate, mission and charter for MedsInfo-ED brand;
  • Disseminated and pitched stories to press to garner attention and convey the bottom-line patient safety message to the public

Result
MA–SHARE’s Advisory Committee endorsed the MedsInfo-ED project on September 29, 2003.
